Lakers Rumors: Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook Looking To Team Up?

The Los Angeles Lakers are finishing up their second consecutive losing season and patience is already beginning to run thin both in the front office and with the fan base. The Lakers plan on turning things around quickly, but it is unknown whether the team will be able to convince a big star to join them in free agency.

One name that has been constantly discussed is Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst discussed the possibility of Love and former teammate Russell Westbrook teaming up in Los Angeles as transcribed by Nick Dudukovich of FanSided:

Love enjoys Westbrook. They have a relationship. There’s a conspiracy theory that exists out there that Kevin Love will go to the Lakers this summer, or next summer, and then Westbrook will join him when he’s a free agent, and they will reunite in LA, like they played for UCLA. The guy, the star player he has the best relationship in the league with is Westbrook.”

This is all strictly speculation and Love has been adamant that he plans on remaining in Cleveland past this season. However, Love has struggled at times this season to fit in with the Cavaliers, and Westbrook has been unable to realize his championship dreams with the Thunder.

Westbrook won’t be a free agent until after the 2016-17 season, so any hopes of the Lakers teaming them up would be years away. Love, of course, can opt-out after this season and many believe he will wind up in Los Angeles eventually. It would be a long shot for the Lakers to be able to bring these two together, but the same was thought about the Big Three coming together in Miami. Needless to say, this summer will be a very interesting one for the Lakers.
