The Los Angeles Lakers have revamped their front office over the past few months as Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka have brought in the people they believe will help re-build the franchise.
While some people were brought in from the outside, one person who is believed to be a significant part of his new regime is director of player personnel, Ryan West.
West is the son of Lakers legend Jerry West who recently took a consultant role with the Los Angeles Clippers. Now, with his father in Los Angeles, there is a strong chance Ryan joins him with the Clippers according to Broderick Turner of the LA Times:
There is a strong chance that West’s son, Ryan West, who is the Lakers’ director of player personnel, will join the Clippers in some capacity, one executive said.
Losing West to the Clippers would be a big loss as he is one of the more promising young pieces of the Lakers’ front office. He has been part of the Lakers scouting process that helped the team find gems like Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. Late in the draft and looked to be taking on a larger role in this new regime.
The chance to work with his father could be too much to pass up however. Jerry West has admitted that he preferred a return to the Lakers, but they had other ideas and West wasn’t a part of them.
West has spent the last six seasons as a consultant with the Golden State Warriors and played a big role in helping to build the Warriors juggernaut that has now won two championships in three years.
When it was announced that West would be joining the Clippers, some fans believed that the Lakers may have made a big mistake in not bringing him back. If the Lakers lose Ryan as a result it will definitely be a loss to that the franchise didn’t see coming.
