Lakers Rumors: Team Reportedly Interested in Dante Cunningham

NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves at Utah JazzWith the Lakers in the midst of a difficult season, the probability that the team makes a trade is looking increasingly likely. As the team struggles to crawl back into the playoff race, it would make sense for the franchise to make a move that they feel would help put them back in the postseason picture in the Western Conference.

Now, it’s being reported by Darren Wolfson of 1500ESPN.com (and Eric Pincus of the L.A. Times), that the team has inquired about Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham.

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak is said to have called the Wolves recently about forward Dante Cunningham. Cunningham is a 6-foot-8, 25-year-old forward who averages 7.4 points and 5.5 rebounds a game this season. There’s no word as to who or what Kupchak offered in return. Cunningham has a $2.09-million salary.

There were no rumors beyond this, and nothing to indicate what the Lakers would be willing to give up in exchange for Cunningham. The reasonable guess is that it would somehow involve Pau Gasol, who has seen a stark decrease in his production this year and is reportedly unhappy with the prospect of coming off the bench.
