Lakers Sign John Ireland, Mychal Thompson to Contract Extensions

The Lakers have officially announced they are extending the contracts of radio broadcasters John Ireland and Mychal Thompson. Both reportedly agreed to multi-year extensions to continue to operate the radio broadcast of home and away games.

The team released an official statement concerning Thompson and Ireland, but the details of the contract have not yet been disclosed.

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed radio play-by-by announcer John Ireland and color analyst Mychal Thompson to multi-year contract extensions, it was announced today by the team.

Ireland, who took over the team’s radio play-by-play duties last season, previously had been the Lakers’ TV sideline reporter since 2002. A four-time local Emmy Award winner, he also co-hosts the popular Mason and Ireland show on the Lakers’ flagship station 710 AM ESPN Radio.

Thompson, who will enter into his 10th season as the Lakers’ radio color analyst, was a former player for the Lakers and was a member of the Lakers’ championship teams in 1987 and 1988.
