The Los Angeles Lakers picked up their second consecutive blowout win on the second night of a back-to-back as they dominated the Sacramento Kings 128-104. It was Luka Doncic leading the way again as he finished with 28 points and nine assists in the victory.

Doncic also provided the highlight of the night and one of the best of the season late in the third quarter. As he drove and attempted to step-back, Luka lost his footing, hitting the ground and nearly losing the ball. But he would recover, keep his dribble while standing back up and then turn around and knock down a fadeaway 3-pointer over Kings guard Daeqwon Plowden, via NBA on X:

Everything about the play was just unbelievable. For Luka to be able to keep his composure and awareness after the fall and maintain his dribble was amazing. But to then recognize the shot clock running down and just bury a fadeaway 3-pointer right in the face of the defender was just something that very few players in the NBA can do.

And apparently, that was all part of the plan as Doncic joked that he slipped on purpose and was just pulling off some old And-1 mixtape moves.

“That was on purpose. I tripped on purpose,” Luka said after the Lakers’ win. “And-1 mixtape? That’s what they were saying on the bench. So, I did it on purpose.”

For those who are old enough to remember those mixtapes from the early-2000s, it was truly a phenomenon that took over the country as the best streetball players pulled off unreal moves on the court. And yes, some would roll on the ground to pull off a crossover, just as Doncic did on this night.

Most important was that the Lakers got another strong win over a team that they should blowout, which has allowed the energy and spirit around this team to be much higher. Now they will need to continue this level of play going forward and perhaps Luka will pull out another move inspired by “Hot Sauce” or “The Professor” to bring the crowd to their feet.

JJ Redick calls Luka Doncic a ‘major stakeholder’ for Lakers

Lakers coach JJ Redick believes that Luka Doncic fully accepts the responsibility that comes with being the best player and leader of this team, calling him a ‘major stakeholder’ for the Lakers.
