Los Angeles Lakers lore is littered with NBA Hall of Famers, though there’s an argument to be made that Jerry West is the most influential person in the storied franchise’s history.

West rose to prominence as a player for the Lakers, leading the team to its first NBA championship after relocating to Los Angeles. From there, he served as a coach and general manager, leading and building more championship rosters that stand the test of time. While West’s tenure with the organization ended on a sour note, he remains a pivotal figure in its global standing today.

To commemorate West’s legacy, Prime Video will be releasing its highly-anticipated documentary Jerry West: The Logo on April 16. Ahead of the release, Prime Video premiered the trailer:

Jerry West: The Logo examines the life and career of West and the loss and sacrifices he endured along the way. A notoriously private person, the documentary features numerous untold stories shared by family, friends, teammates and colleagues. Figures such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and Shaquille O’Neal make appearances and are expected to share their own memories and experiences with West.

On the court and in the front office, West was revered for his fierce competitive spirit and his constant pursuit of perfection. However, that chase for greatness cost him a lot off the floor in regards to his relationships with his own loved ones.

As a player, West won one NBA championship and was named a 14-time All-Star. He is still the only player in league history to be named Finals MVP despite being on the losing team.

West enjoyed more success as an executive, winning six championships with Los Angeles. West moved on to become the Memphis Grizzlies general manager, turning them around into a perennial playoff team. He later went on to work for the Golden State Warriors where he captured two more titles in 2015 and 2017.

Luka Doncic joins Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson and Jerry West in Lakers history

Luka Doncic is the latest superstar to represent the Lakers, a franchise littered with NBA legends like West. Like his predecessors, Doncic is a masterful offensive player who can do anything on the floor.

Earlier in the 2025-26 season, Doncic recorded a triple-double of 45 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists in a win against the Utah Jazz. Doncic’s 40-point triple-double was the fourth in Lakers history, putting him on a list that includes Magic Johnson, Elgin Baylor and West.
