The Los Angeles Lakers were able to extend their winning streak to seven with their victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. And it was the duo of Luka Doncic and LeBron James leading the way with two spectacular performances.

Not only did the Lakers pick up another win over a playoff team, but the victory also clinched the season series for the Lakers over the Rockets, which is absolutely crucial in the even they finish with the same record. The Lakers are now two games in the loss column ahead of both the Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves and three games ahead of the Denver Nuggets while holding the tiebreaker over all three teams.

The Lakers are clicking at the right time as Doncic, James and Austin Reaves seem to have finally figured out how to best utilize all three while on the court together. That along with an improved defense has the Lakers playing their best ball of the year, but Wednesday’s win over the Rockets was historic on a couple of fronts.

LeBron James makes NBA history

James finished with 30 points on a ridiculous 13-of-14 shooting from the field and in doing so, became the oldest player in NBA history to score at least 30 points on 90% shooting, via ESPN Insights:

The record was previously held by former Portland Trail Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis, who was 36 years old when he accomplished the feat. LeBron is the first Laker to pull this off since Shaquille O’Neal who did so back in 2003.

And truth be told, James should have shot 100% from the field as the only shot he missed appeared to be an obvious foul that the officials missed.

Luka Doncic continues historic stretch

For Doncic, who finished with 40 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists, he is in the midst of a seven-game stretch of both individual and team success that has never been seen, via OptaSTATS:

50+ rebounds
50+ assists
25+ threes made

It is one thing to play at this high level, but it means even more when they are coming in victories like Luka’s performances are. During this win streak, Doncic is averaging 38.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2.0 steals on 48.6% shooting from the field and 40.4% from 3-point range.

He has particularly dominated while playing in Houston as he has five straight 35-point games in their arena, which is the most ever.
