Luka Doncic has been on an absolute tear to start his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Many felt he could be in for a career-year after really dedicating himself to improving his fitness during the offseason and that has been the case thus far.
Doncic currently leads the NBA in scoring at 35.2 points per game while also adding 8.8 rebounds and 9.2 assists, which is fourth in the league. In Tuesday’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers, he scored 32 points in the first half and finished with 43 while nearly notching a triple-double with nine rebounds and 13 assists.
This was Luka’s fifth 40-point game of the season and seventh since joining the Lakers last season. And with this performance the superstar moved into the top 10 in Lakers history of 40-point games, via Lakers on X:

Seeing Kobe Bryant at the top of that list is no surprise as his scoring exploits are the thing of legend. But for Doncic to already find himself amongst this group of Lakers royalty that includes the likes of Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson really says a lot about just how special he is.
And this isn’t the only list Luka is moving up with this performance. This was Doncic’s 39th career 40-point double-double which moves him ahead of former Lakers big man Anthony Davis for the fourth-most among active players.
With five of those coming in a Lakers uniform, Luka has tied Johnson for the sixth-most 40-point double-doubles as a Laker and has tied Bryant and O’Neal for the most 40-point double-doubles as a Laker before age 27 since the NBA/ABA merger. Doncic also passed Russell Westbrook with his 51st career 40-point game, moving into seventh among active players.
What Doncic has done so far this season seems almost unreal, but he has continued to prove why he is truly a one-of-a-kind player in this league.
Lakers’ Luka Doncic willing to pay Jaxson Hayes’ fine for defending him
In the midst of this outstanding performance, Luka Doncic got into a minor altercation with Clippers guard Kris Dunn that led to Dunn being ejected from the game. Lakers center Jaxson Hayes also received a technical foul for shoving Dunn as he came to the defense of Doncic, who made it clear that he would be taking care of any fine that comes to Hayes.
