Luka Doncic has been playing on another level over the last two weeks. The Los Angeles Lakers star was already leading the league in points per game, but upped himself to an even higher level during the team’s ongoing six-game win streak.

The 26-year-old superstar scored 44 against the Indiana Pacers, 35 against the New York Knicks and 31 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Then, he dropped a season-high 51 against the Chicago Bulls before tallying 30 against the Denver Nuggets and 36 on Monday night facing the Houston Rockets.

This gives him a points per game average of 37.8 over the course of the last six contests, putting Doncic in rare air with Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, via ESPN Insights:

Anytime a player can be in the same realm as Kobe when it comes to scoring, it shows that player is doing something historic. Luka has already been the best scorer in the league this season, but he’s really kicking it into high gear as the stretch run begins.

His play is a major factor in why the Lakers have won nine of their last 10 games and are starting to take control of the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. Doncic scored 36 of the team’s 100 points against the Rockets on Monday, pairing his dangerous scoring with the Lakers’ defense finally coming around to something strong.

There is a reason that, before his passing, Bryant had already developed a bond with a young Doncic. It’s because he saw greatness in the Slovenian superstar, and that greatness is now being realized with the same franchise that Kobe spent two decades with.

Luka Doncic named player of the week for March 9-15

Doncic was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played on March 9-15, it was announced by the NBA.

During the week, Doncic led the Lakers to a 3-0 record with impressive wins over the Timberwolves, Bulls and Nuggets. In the three games, he averaged 37.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 11 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks while recording two triple-doubles.

This honor marks the third as a Laker for Doncic and the 17th weekly award of his career. He also took home the same honor in early December and late January of this season while also being named Western Conference Player of the Month in January.

Ron began watching basketball when he was 6 years old, in 2005, when Bryant was dragging the likes of Smush Parker and Ronny Turiaf to playoff spots. Ron's all time favorite Lakers moment was Bryant's final game when he dropped 60 points. While the Lakers beating the Celtics in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, as Metta World Peace hit the game clinching three, will always be a top option, Bryant's final night takes the cake.
