Magic Johnson Believes Current Lakers Squad Is ‘Not Built To Win’

Following yet another tough overtime loss, this time to the Orlando Magic, the Los Angeles Lakers record now sits at 13-37. If the Lakers keep their current pace, they will surpass last season’s mark for futility, which would be the worst in franchise history. With Kobe Bryant out for the season, coach Byron Scott has opted to shake up the rotation and give starting minutes to young talents such as Jordan Clarkson and Ryan Kelly.

The purple and gold are certainly headed for the lottery once again, and a top-five pick seems like a strong possibility at this point. Laker legend Magic Johnson had a few comments regarding the current state of the team in a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel:

Magic believes that this current incarnation of the Lakers, “is not built to win.”

With that being said, he thinks the Lakers would greatly benefit from being as bad as can be. With players like Duke’s Jahlil Okafor available in this year’s NBA draft, the Laker great wants the team to add more talent in hopes of regaining a spot among the league’s elite.
