It has only been a week since the Los Angeles Lakers were bounced from the NBA playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but that hasn’t stopped Metta World Peace from getting back on the floor in the Drew League.
Along with making headlines for his Drew League appearance, World Peace made another classic goof by mistaking Memorial Day for Labor Day.
Reportedly, World Peace made an appearance on Sunday in a Drew League game for a team called the Money Gang. The veteran forward talked about his reasoning for getting back on the floor almost immediately after his season ended with the Lakers via Mark Medina of the L.A. Times:
“I took some time off, but I don’t want it to be too much,” World Peace said. “I’m getting back in the gym. I want to pick up where I left off in the last month and a half. I don’t want to be busy the whole summer. I’m going to be doing more training. I want to be ready.”
The fate of World Peace in Los Angeles is very much up in the air right now with the Lakers possible exploring the option of using the amnesty clause on the former Defensive Player of the Year. With World Peace set to make $7.2 million next season and $7.7 million (player option) the year after, the 32-year-old might be on his way out through the amnesty clause or via trade.
During the off-season there will be a lot of questions to be answered in the Lakers’ front office with many different players like World Peace, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum potentially on the trading block.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for these players in Los Angeles, but World Peace seems to be taking the right approach in terms of improving his all-around game considering the status of his immediate future with the Lakers.
