Kobe and Michael JordanWhere would basketball be without the Kobe vs. LeBron argument. Fans from either side have spent an incredible amount of time debating which future Hall of Famer is closer in comparison to the great Michael Jordan. It’s fun. It’s interesting. It’s a highly heated subject.

Michael Jordan has said that Kobe is his closest comparison in the past, but with the last two season’s of spectacular performances put together by LeBron James, this debate has increased in intensity. However, to Jordan, it comes down to simple math.

In a interview with Ahmad Rashad, which will air on NBA TV on Monday, Jordan told Rashard:

“Five beats one every time I look at it,” Jordan said. “And not that (James) won’t get five. He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one.”

Reporters caught up with LeBron in Oklahoma City, where the Heat play the Thunder tonight, to get his reaction to Jordan’s comment:

“It doesn’t matter to me,. f you take Kobe one and I go second, it doesn’t matter. I don’t get too involved in what guys say about me or if you take Kobe or if you take LeBron. As long as I’m on the floor and I make plays for my teammates, I don’t do what I do for other people’s approval.”

Michael Jordan turns 50 years old on Sunday, and the NBA will celebrate his birthday with on-air specials recounting Jordan’s truly phenomenal career in the NBA that has influence essentially every NBA player today and future stars to come.
