Mitch Kupchak: Criticism Of Jim Buss ‘Should Be Directed At Me As Well’

In recent years as the Los Angeles Lakers have free-fallen into becoming one of the worst teams in the NBA, many people have begun criticizing moves the Lakers have made, and much of that criticism has been directed at owner Jim Buss.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, however, believes this is unfair, and that criticism should be pointed at himself as well as Buss via Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Kupchak (1/2): "Any decision that's happened in the past 2 or 3 years that people have a problem with, I was involved or leading the way…"

— Serena Winters (@SerenaWinters) February 20, 2015

Kupchak (2/2): "So, if there's criticism then it should be directed at me as well. He (Jim Buss) is not making decision in a vacuum."

— Serena Winters (@SerenaWinters) February 20, 2015

Anything bad that has happened to the team, all of the blame usually goes to Buss and it is refreshing to see Kupchak stand up and claim his role in the moves the team has made.

Kupchak is one of the most respected general managers in the league and his track record is excellent. Though some may believe that it is Buss making all of the decisions, Kupchak maintains that he has just as big a say in all Lakers front office moves.

The next step for the team is obviously getting ready for the upcoming NBA Draft and Kupchak says the Lakers will focus on building for long-term success and not just Kobe’s final season.
