Mitch Kupchak Says Kobe Will ‘Take The Last Shot’ Next Season

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Miami HeatThe start of Los Angeles Lakers training camp is right around the corner with media day set to get underway on Saturday.

As usual, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak met with the media a few days before media day to talk about the upcoming season. Kupchak talked about Kobe Bryant and how he expects the five-time NBA champion to still be the team’s closer moving forward via Serena Winters of Lakers Nation:

“When we’re down by two or three, the Kobe that we know and love will take the last shot.”

Kupchak also talked about Kobe’s recovery from Achilles surgery and how permanent damage won’t be noticeable:

“You won’t be able to look at him and say he’s hurt.”

Although Kobe has been an incredible recovery from his Achilles injury and it on pace to get back on the floor much earlier than anticipated for the upcoming season, there’s still no timetable for the veteran’s return. Kupchak mentioned that Kobe currently has no timeline for his return:

“There’s no timeline.”

With Kobe having the reputation for playing through pain and never letting anything hold him back, the superstar will likely return in November or early December. Although returning for the season opener on Oct. 29 against the Los Angeles Clippers may be unrealistic at this point, it won’t surprise anyone if the 35-year-old is ready to go in order to face the division rivals.
