With Steve Nash done for the season, the Los Angeles Lakers could potentially have another roster spot available and almost $5 million to spend on a free agent. The team’s plans will be dictated by the league with the Lakers applying for a disabled player exception.

On Friday, GM Mitch Kupchak spoke to the media about Nash and the team’s plans moving forward. Although Nash being out potentially frees up a spot, Kupchak doesn’t know if they’ll make a move, via Bill Oram of OC Register:

Fortunately for the Lakers, the team has some depth at the point guard position. Ronnie Price, Jeremy Lin and rookie Jordan Clarkson will help shoulder the load in the backcourt with Nash on the shelf.

Although there’s no potential game-changers in the free agent pool, the Lakers will have some options if they chose bring in a free agent. Ray Allen is the most sought after free agent currently available, but it seems unrealistic that he’d sign with any team that isn’t in title contention.

Former Laker Andrew Bynum is still available along with a few other notable free agents like Jermaine O’Neal, Emeka Okafor and Richard Hamilton. The Lakers have yet to express interest in any of these free agents, but that could change if injuries continue to be a problem for the franchise moving forward.
