Muggsy Bogues: Kobe Bryant Should Take Michael Jordan’s Place In Space Jam 2

Over the past few years, there’s been a lot of talk about “Space Jam 2” potentially being in the works. Superstar LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers has been consistently linked to the project and expected to be the player to take over where Michael Jordan left off in the first movie that came out back in 1996.

Former NBA star Muggsy Bogues, however, hopes that LeBron won’t be the one filling Jordan’s shoes in the next installment. As one of the many NBA stars to appear in the original “Space Jam,” Bogues thinks former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant should take Jordan’s place rather than LeBron as he told the Charlotte Observer:

“I heard Michael say he would like to see Blake Griffin star as him, but I would’ve thought Kobe would kind of fit that mold more,” Bogues said.

A few weeks ago, Jordan was asked at one of his basketball camps who he thinks should take his place if “Space Jam 2” does actually happen. As Bogues pointed out, Jordan went with Blake Griffin, via HouseOfHighlights Instagram:

Although nothing has been made official, LeBron is expected to star in “Space Jam 2” at some point in the near future. James recently signed a partnership deal with Warner Bros. back in July further fueling the speculation that he’ll star in the sequel.

LeBron recently talked about “Space Jam” and a potential sequel in an interview with Alyson Shontell of Business Insider (transcription via Caitlyn Holroyd of The Score)

“Michael Jordan and the Looney Tunes – they did an unbelievable thing not only for my childhood, but for so many kids and so many people that followed the franchise,” he said. “So, obviously, we want to make sure that it’s right.

“We don’t want to rush it. We don’t want to do something that’s not authentic to the ‘Space Jam’ brand. So, hopefully, we can get it right. But right now, where it stands, the ‘Space Jam’ franchise is in a great place.”

Clearly, “Space Jam 2” likely won’t come to fruition anytime soon and it appear to be LeBron’s movie regardless of the preferences of Bogues or anyone else that isn’t crazy about the idea of James filling Jordan’s shoes.
