The speculation continues concerning the final destination for superstar LeBron James in free agency. All along the Miami Heat were thought to be the frontrunner for his services after four straight NBA Finals appearances, but that no longer seems to be the case.

According to ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard, the Cleveland Cavaliers have replaced the Heat in the running for LeBron:

Cleveland has replaced Miami as my frontrunner to land LeBron James…

— Chris Broussard (@Chris_Broussard) July 7, 2014

The Cavs haven’t been able to rebound since losing LeBron to the Heat back in 2010. LeBron went to Miami and won two titles while Cavs owner Dan Gilbert struggled to rebuild in Cleveland with draft picks.

Fortunately, the Cavs were able to lock up star point guard Kyrie Irving recently to a five-year deal worth $90 million. Along with keeping Irving in Cleveland for the next five year, the Cavs also were able to get their hands on Canadian phenom, Andrew Wiggins with the first pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

With Irving and Wiggins in the fold, LeBron would have the young pieces around him to potentially build up the Cavs as a contender in the Eastern Conference for many years to come.

When LeBron left Cleveland back in 2010, the superstar forward became public enemy number one in the NBA. Although LeBron has redeemed himself over the last few years with a pair championship rings, the 29-year-old clearly has unfinished business in his native Cleveland.

Although Cleveland has emerged as the supposed frontrunner according to Broussard, LeBron has yet to meet with any interested teams face-to-face. That being said, the LeBron sweepstakes may have just begun with plenty of teams showing interest in arguably the best all-around player in the league.
