NBA News: Cleveland Cavaliers Plan to Reach Out to Phil Jackson

phil jacksonLess than a week after firing former Lakers player Byron Scott, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has identified his ideal candidate for the vacant head coaching position: Phil Jackson.

Just last week Jackson sent shockwaves through the NBA when it was reported that he was interested in a return to the sidelines. Teams like the Nets and Kings are obvious landing spots, and if the Kings do indeed move to Seattle, Jackson might be more inclined to move to the Pacific Northwest.

Reports surfaced that the Cavaliers and former coach Mike Brown had mutual interest, but that Gilbert was afraid Brown was going to be a popular name in the coaching carousel.

It’s surprising that Jackson would be interested in the Cleveland job since it would require years of rebuilding and the 66-year old coach only coaches championship caliber teams.
