NBA News: Clippers Could Be Missing Piece for Nets to Get Howard

In a sudden turn of events, the Brooklyn Nets have once again become the frontrunners to acquire All-Star center Dwight Howard. At first the Los Angeles Lakers looked like the likely destination, but the Nets have come back with determination.

Brooklyn already re-signed Deron Williams, traded for Joe Johnson and it is now trying to form a Big Three with Howard. Dwight Howard always wanted to go to Brooklyn and he said that the Nets are the only team he will sign a long-term extension with.

The Lakers’ main assest offered to the Magic was Andrew Bynum, but Orlando has decided to deal with the Nets instead. According to reports, the Magic are talking to the Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers about a block-buster trade involving ten players and several draft picks. Still, another team is needed to complete the deal and it could be the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Nets want to trade the promising MarShon Brooks for a draft pick they can give the Magic.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was one of the main players in stopping a trade that would give the Lakers Chris Paul, and the Clippers were the ones who got him instead. Ironically, it could be these two franchises that prevent Dwight Howard from wearing the purple-and-gold.
