The NBA continues to hand out its awards during this time of the year, and the latest will honor one of the league’s best young players.

According to NJ.com, Philadelphia 76ers point guard Michael Carter-Williams will be named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year:

Michael Carter-Williams, the Sixers rookie point guard, will be named the NBA Rookie of the Year, a league source with knowledge of the voting has confirmed

The official announcement will not come until later this week, but this outcome was expected. This year’s rookie class was underwhelming for the most part and the only other players who could even garner slight consideration are Utah’s Trey Burke and Orlando’s Victor Oladipo.

Carter-Willams led all rookies in points, rebounds, assists, and steals, and was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal 19-63 campaign for the 76ers.

Philadelphia is considered to have one of the brightest futures in the NBA, and Carter-Williams is the main reason for that. The team will also have two lottery picks in the upcoming NBA Draft, and $30 million in cap space this off-season.

Carter-Williams is the first 76er to win the award since Allen Iverson won the award in 1996.
