Now that his season and likely his career is officially over, Derek Fisher can begin looking at other opportunities.

He has been linked to both the Lakers and New York Knicks’ head coach positions and Phil Jackson even got fined for talking about Fisher as a possibility while Fisher was still an active player. But Jackson and Fisher have officially met about the Knicks position according to Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski:

Fisher has yet to officially retire from the NBA, but he is expected to talk to his family this weekend and come to a final decision. Most believe Fisher has played his last NBA game.

If Fisher does retire, he is expected to then engage in more serious talks with the Knicks about becoming their next head coach. While Fisher is also a target of the Lakers, he is believed to be more of a secondary target as the Lakers prefer someone with more head coaching experience.

The Lakers have already interviewed a number of potential candidates including Byron Scott, Mike Dunleavy, and Lionel Hollins. The Knicks, on the other hand, had originally zeroed in on Steve Kerr as their next head coach, but Kerr ultimately decided to take the Golden State Warriors position.

The Lakers were also expected to speak with Fisher this week, and there has been no word on whether those talks took place or if the Lakers will formally interview Fisher.
