On Friday night the Lakers and Celtics face off for the first time this season, renewing the greatest rivalry in the history of the NBA. While both teams are struggling this season and the teams are devoid of many of the players who fought tooth and nail against each other in the NBA Finals in 2008 and 2010, there is always a little extra excitement any time the Lakers head to Boston.
One of the key players in both of those Finals matchups was Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo, who has yet to suit up this season due to a torn ACL suffered last season. That may soon change as Rondo hinted on Twitter that he may be returning soon:
29,233,380 secs
— Rajon Rondo (@RajonRondo) January 14, 2014
For those of you who are not math majors, 29,233,380 seconds is roughly equal to 338 days. Rondo tore his ACL on February 13, 2013. The Lakers and Celtics play on January 17, 2014. The amount of days between the two dates? 338.
When healthy, Rondo is easily one of the best point guards in basketball and his return would make the Celtics a completely different team. With the return of Xavier Henry a possibility for the Lakers, Friday night could be full of comebacks.
This would make a tough game even tougher for the Lakers, and as the only remaining Celtic from that 2010 Finals team, Rondo undoubtedly harbors a hatred for the Lakers that the rest of the team has never experienced.
Nothing is set in stone of course, but the possibility of a Rondo return makes this game a much bigger deal.
