Kyrie Irving has taken the NBA by storm in his first two seasons. He quickly became one of the best young players in the NBA, and became an All-Star along the way.

Unfortunately, the Cavaliers have struggled to improve despite making moves intended to take the team to the next level. And because of Irving’s struggle to lead this team to the playoffs, the team may be reluctant to give him a max extension according to Pro Basketball Talk:

The Cavs are making noises that they aren’t going to offer Kyrie Irving “max money’’ this summer via a long-term extension. They don’t want to deal the 2014 All-Star Game MVP, but it could come to that, especially if the West Orange product and his family continue to tell people that he wants out.

Irving is eligible for a max extension this summer, and despite his apparent leadership issues, there is no doubt that he is deserving of a max extension and the Cavs will likely regret not giving him one.

The Minnesota Timberwolves refused to offer Kevin Love a max extension when they had the chance. Now, Love is ready to get out and the T-Wolves will probably have to trade him for far less than equal value, just to get anything for him.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were gifted with the top pick in a draft that is one of the best in years. They have a chance to pair Irving with another potential franchise-changer and turn their team around quickly.

Of course, if Irving really doesn’t want to be in Cleveland, he will find his way out of there. Either way, two of the NBA’s brightest young stars could be on the move soon.
