Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love will be one of the most prized free agents this summer should he choose to opt-out of his contract at the end of the season. Love has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers on numerous occasions and the team would likely make him a primary target should he hit the market.

While there have been plenty of rumors suggesting that Love will leave Cleveland after this season. However, according to Bob Finnan of The News Herald, it sounds as if Love wants to remain in Cleveland even if he does opt-out:

If he opts out this summer, that doesn’t mean he’s signing with another team. Indications are that he wants to stay with the Cavaliers beyond this season.

Love returning to Cleveland has always been a possibility. Though he has struggled adjusting to his role with the Cavaliers, they remain one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and a favorite to win an NBA championship.

Should Love decide to test the market, the Lakers will have some things to entice Love including a starring role on a team with young talent, as well as proximity to his hometown. Love was born in Santa Monica and went to college at UCLA.

Love’s season is already over after undergoing shoulder surgery that is expected to keep him out 4-6 months. The Lakers will have a maximum salary slot available and if Love can be had, the Lakers seem likely to make an offer.
