There have been plenty of major deals already in the NBA offseason as Paul George, Jimmy Butler, and Chris Paul have all been dealt. The next name expected to join them is New York Knicks All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks made no secret of their desire to part ways with Anthony and re-build around budding star Kristaps Porzingis. Anthony, who owns a no-trade clause, was reportedly willing to wave it for a deal to either the Houston Rockets or Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Knicks were reportedly discussing numerous different deals with the Rockets, but now things are on hold as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne report that the Knicks are pausing trade talks on Anthony:

The New York Knicks are pausing trade talks centered on Carmelo Anthony and want to pursue a conversation with the 10-time NBA All-Star about possibly reincorporating him into the organization, league sources told ESPN.

The Knicks are in the midst of re-shaping their front office. They have agreed to a five-year contract with Sacramento Kings executive Scott Perry to become their new general manager. It is believed that the Knicks would like Anthony to meet with their new front office.

Whether Anthony would be open to remaining with the Knicks remains to be seen as the team has openly pushed for him to waive his no-trade clause and there were even reported discussions about them considering a buyout for him.

It would seem as if talks would start back up once the Knicks get their front office situation settled. The Rockets have been aggressive in trying to pair Anthony with Paul and James Harden in hopes of competing with the defending champion Golden State Warriors.
