Nuggets Coach George Karl: I Just Despise the Lakers

It seems as though Denver Nuggets coach George Karl is not a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The two Western Conference foes have faced each other in the post-season many times before, with the most recent series occurring last season. The Nuggets have not had a lot of success against the Lakers and with Los Angeles’ blockbuster summer, it is likely that Karl will fall to the hands of the Lakers again.

Karl spoke to the Denver Post and talked about his hatred for the Lakers. Los Angeles added two more superstars to its roster this summer, and those transactions irked Karl even more.

“I can’t deny that I just despise the Lakers,” Karl said Monday. “There’s a bigger (description) for it (that I can’t use in public). I’ve been beaten by them too many times. I didn’t expect them to be bad this season, but when they got Steve Nash, I can’t deny I was really upset.”

The Lakers are one of the most historic franchises in NBA history and they always find ways to develop championship rosters. There are not many instances where the Lakers stay mediocre for long stretches of times, instead the team eventually brings in title quality players.

There was great backlash when the Lakers traded for Chris Paul, and one can make an argument that the other owners played a role in vetoing the deal. The Lakers’ enemies got the better end of the stick in the Paul trade, but there was nothing they could do about the Nash and Dwight Howard deals.
