Lakers News: Pau Gasol Emphasizes Ball Movement for Game 2

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Portland Trail BlazersThe Los Angeles Lakers will be shorthanded for the entire postseason, and that is surely not helping them in their first round series. As the seventh seed in the Western Conference, the Lakers are currently playing the San Antonio Spurs, a squad that many people have as a threat to dethrone the Miami Heat.

With no Kobe Bryant in the lineup, the Lakers will have their hands full against the Spurs in a seven game series. The Lakers did not play very well in Game 1 on Sunday, and they need to make adjustments if they want to head back to Los Angeles tied at one game. The Lakers tried to use their size advantage in the paint against the Spurs, but they had a tendency to turn the ball over, which killed their chances of winning the game.

Pau Gasol spoke to ESPN Los Angeles and talked about what the Lakers need to do in their next game.

“Let’s see if we can have a little bit better ball movement before we try to get the ball in, because if we try to fight it too much and force it too much is when the turnovers came in, most of them,” Gasol said. “So, we just got to move their defense a little bit better and swing the ball, then try to post the ball up into Dwight or myself. Then it won’t be as easy for them to front or make things hard for us.”

Turnovers were a big problem for the Lakers in Game 1 as they committed 18 of them. The Spurs are a very balanced and disciplined basketball team, and the Lakers cannot afford to just give them the ball. The team will be back in action tonight at 6:30 p.m. PST as they try to avoid a tough 0-2 hole in the series.
