Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol has openly stated his desire to remain with the Lakers after being the focus of trade rumors over the weekend.

Rumor has it the Lakers were in discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves for a deal that would send Gasol to Minnesota in exchange for Kevin Love and a top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

However, a recent interview with an overseas source states that Gasol declared he wants to remain with Los Angeles for “as many years as I can.”

“My desire is to stay with the Lakers. I don’t have control over it but I want to stay with the Lakers for as many years as I can to be able to remain eligible for the maximum possible championships,” Gasol told reporters.

Minnesota was interested in adding Gasol after finally agreeing to a deal to bring his former Spanish teammate Ricky Rubio to the NBA.
