Report: Kobe Bryant Will Not Recruit Dwight Howard

The Los Angeles Lakers have just landed future Hall-of-Fame guard Steve Nash and many people don’t expect the front-office to take a break. The Lakers have been rumored to being a possible destination for Dwight Howard and with Nash now in Los Angeles, Howard may also head to Southern California.

However, don’t expect Kobe Bryant to persuade Howard to take his talents to Los Angeles. Bryant and Howard spoke to each other previously, but their talk did not go well. It is reported that the Kobe and Howard had different views about the system and Howard’s role on the team. Adrian Wojnarowski writes that the Kobe Bryant would love to have Howard on the squad, but he will not help out in the process of recruiting him.

“Bryant would welcome Howard as a teammate, sources say, but he’s shown no inclination to be part of a process of trying convince him to come.”

The Lakers would get the best center in the league if they acquire Howard, but they will lost out on a promising young Andrew Bynum. Bynum is no doubt a more polished offense player than Howard, but they will certainly get a more dynamic defender. However, before the Lakers make a serious push for Howard, they  must make sure he will sign long-term with the team.
