Lakers Rumors: Team Passed on Delonte West to Avoid Complications

DelonteWestThe Los Angeles Lakers had a chance to bring in free agent Delonte West, but the front office believed he would have further complicated the Lakers’ problems, says Marc Stein of ESPN.

The Lakers were strongly considering adding West to the team during the team’s slow start in December, but opted to stay away from the guard. It seems as though the Lakers never had questions about West’s ability to play basketball, but considering his past actions and problems, the front office chose to look elsewhere.

The Los Angeles Lakers elected to pass on signing Delonte West due to concerns about how his presence would possibly further destabilize an already complicated situation, according to sources.

West was strongly considered during the Lakers’ 1-6 start to December, but ultimately decided the safer option was to wait for Steve Nash to return.

The Lakers got Steve Nash back on the court for their game against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, and he helped guide them to an overtime victory. Still, the Lakers are without back-up point guard Steve Blake and the front-office may want to add another player to fill the void.

Chris Duhon and Darius Morris split the minutes at the point guard position when Nash was out, but there is a chance one of them will see their playing time diminish now that Nash is back. However, if the Lakers end up adding another guard, there is a chance Duhon and Morris stay on the bench.
