Steve Nash Considers Vince Carter A Canadian Basketball Icon

dal_u_carter1x_600Canadian basketball has made major strides of improvement over the past few years, and as a fellow countryman, Steve Nash cannot be any more proud. The Los Angeles Lakers point guard is a pioneer for Canadian basketball, and he recently spoke about the progress of the program.

Nash is currently the assistant manager of the Canadian national basketball team, and he touched upon the different people and events that helped increase the appeal of the sport in the country. The future Hall of Fame point guard pointed to Vince Carter as a great role model for many Canadian athletes, and he believes as though Carter’s impact on the country should be valued more.

“For six and a half years, much of Canada’s young talent watched and fell in love with a flamboyant, human highlight film named Vince Carter. He inspired them nightly while playing for the home team Raptors. I think Vince’s presence in our country shouldn’t be underestimated. His charisma was incredibly powerful in attracting a Canadian audience to the game of basketball for a memorable period of time. More and more kids play basketball every year in Canada, and I think the NBA’s arrival played a pivotal role in the game’s growth.”

Carter was the face of the Toronto Raptors in his prime, and he drew attention to an international city and a loyal fan base. Although Carter’s tenure in Toronto did not come to a proper end, his presence and impact in the nation are something that cannot be overlooked.
