Kobe Bryant has been working out feverishly this off-season to get his body ready for a comeback season this year. He may not be the only one trying to make a comeback.

Former seven-time All-Star Tracy McGrady told Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski that he worked out with Kobe in August and is apparently contemplating an NBA comeback:

Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels. The comeback will not happen, unless I have the drive whenever I get back.

In the mid-2000s, the argument over who was the best player in basketball tended to revolve around McGrady and Kobe. Bryant even admitted that he considered McGrady was his biggest challenge in the NBA, and McGrady reciprocated the compliment.

The two were working out three days a week for an unknown period of time in August and McGrady has been contacted by a couple of teams this off-season, but is contractually obligated for a basketball tour in China in October.

What is also interesting is that McGrady chose to work out with Bryant to test his body. Bryant’s work ethic and motivation is the thing of legends, and even at his advanced age, Bryant seems to be the perfect person to test whether his body is ready for an NBA workload.

It’s not 2005 anymore, but if McGrady has something left, the Lakers aren’t exactly deep at the small forward position. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to kick the tires on a legend like McGrady.
