Turkey Beats Spain In Euros As Gasol Sits Out

The Turkish Men’s Basketball team beat the Spanish squad in the 2011 European Championship, 65-57. Spain’s star Pau Gasol did not play in the game since he was resting his twisted ankle. Without Gasol’s presence in the middle, Spain scored only two points in the fourth quarter and let Turkey end the game with a 16-0 run.

“We didn’t recover from yesterday’s game , both physically and mentally,” Spain coach Sergio Scariolo said. “We never caught the right tempo.”

Spanish coach Scariolo said Pau Gasol was day-to-day with his injured ankle after he tweaked it in Spain’s match versus Lithuania.

Currently, Gasol and his team are in the second stage of the Euros and they are in a four way tie with three points for the second seed in the group. They will play three more games in this second stage of group play and their next opponent will be Germany on Sept. 7th.
