After failing to make the playoffs for only the sixth time in franchise history last season, the Los Angeles Lakers are struggling once again with a 12-27 record. While this is unfamiliar territory for basketball fans, the Lakers are considered the most national team according to Twitter.

Twitter released a new map that shows which NBA team is most followed in each city. Here is the Lakers map via Bleacher Report:

While the Lakers are currently struggling, their popularity not only in the United States but around the world cannot be denied. With all the superstars and championships through the years, Lakers are clearly the most national team.

Heading into the 2015 off-season, the Lakers have an opportunity to return to being championship contenders. Depending on where they finish in the standings, the Lakers will have a top-five pick to go along with $30 million in cap space to pursue big-name free agents.
