As part of the Los Angles Lakers 14th annual Read To Achieve program, Ed Davis, Tarik Black and the Laker Girls read to 150 elementary school students in the LA area. The students sat attentively, smiled, listened and laughed as the Lakers took turns reading pages from the book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

After the story concluded, Davis and Black headed over to the basketball courts where they played a game of “knockout” with a group of kids.

I think nowadays with all of this technology, reading is starting to become a lost art, so I read, a lot of my teammates read, and we can try to help theses kids and show them we’re not too cool to read, so why can’t ya’ll do it? It’s always a positive thing,” Davis said after the event.

It was nothing but smiles from the elementary school students, who were thankful and excited to meet Davis and Black. These students were just some of nearly 30,000 elementary school students who participated in Lakers Read To Achieve.
