The Duke-Carolina: The Blue Blood Rivalry made its west coast premiere Sunday, February 9th at the Premiere House at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live. The documentary is based on the Duke-Carolina basketball rivalry that dates back over 60 years and continues evolving, as the two ACC, elite teams remain head-to-head every season. Former players from both schools, as well as alumni, now living in Los Angeles, attended the VIP event prior to the screening. The premiere was hosted by Time Warner Cable SportsNetās Jamie Maggio and was also joined by the producers and team behind the documentary.
Executive Producer, Hassan Pinto stated, āThe film takes a dynamic and unique fan based look at the greatest college basketball rivalry in America, and is a must-see film whether you are fan of Duke, Carolina or college basketball.ā
Duke alums, Kenny Dennard and actor, Jack Coleman, as well as, Carolina alum and Lakers general manager, Mitch Kupchak attended the event showcasing their school spirit. The Lakers currently have a player from both schools, power forward, Ryan Kelly from Duke and point guard, Kendall Marshall from Carolina. The two arrived after the Lakers-Bulls game in good spirits, despite a 92-86 loss. The rivalry between the teammates hasnāt affected their relationship on the court. Although, they still both bleed school colors and find ways to playfully prank each other.
The Carolina-Duke rivalry is unparalleled in American sports. The schools sit nine miles apart on separate ends of Tobacco Road in North Carolina and alternate games between the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill and Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham. Both teams have consistently been ranked in the AP Top 25 for many years and have produced some of the most notable names in basketball history, including all-time great, Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Grant Hill. However, the Tar Heels lead the series 132-104, despite Mike Krzyzewskiās coaching success.
The Duke-Carolina game was scheduled for Wednesday, February 12th, but was postponed due to weather delays and will now take place February 20th. The film is currently available for download on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play.
