“It’s a good chance to get a perspective check,” Jeremy Lin said before handing out turkeys and pies to 300 needy families on Tuesday. “Bringing awareness and giving resources to people that might not have it.”

Jeremy Lin, Ed Davis, the Laker Girls and East West Bank continued their annual “A Season of Giving” this week by donating and distributing Thanksgiving turkeys, pies and goods to families invited by the Salvation Army Inglewood Citadel Corps.

One thankful recipient smiled on her way out, exclaiming, “Is this really all for me?”

This week’s turkey giveaway was a continuation of the Salvation Army Inglewood Citadel Corps’ annual Miracle on Manchester food distribution, which was unfortunately affected by budget cutbacks this year.

Just being able to put a smile on their face,” Davis said while prepping to hand out turkeys. “These people definitely need it, just being able to help and being able to just give back in some way some how is just a good feeling.”

What’s Davis thankful for this year?

“Good health. Being able to wake up everyday and do what I love. Being able to put smiles on people’s faces. There’s a lot of people that didn’t wake up today, and a lot of people that aren’t going to wake up tomorrow. Nothing’s promised, so just being able to wake up everyday.”

Since 2000, the Lakers have used “A Season of Giving” to assist thousands of children and adults. This year’s events include the Thanksgiving Feast, this Thanksgiving turkey giveaway, a holiday party for kids, gift delivery to “adopted” families from the LAUSD Homeless Education Program and hospital visits.
