In 18 games this season, Lakers’ rookie Ryan Kelly has only played seven minutes total. With the Los Angeles D-Fenders’ season starting last month, the Lakers have assigned Kelly to their D-League affiliate to give him an opportunity to play major minutes and continue developing his game.

In last night’s 131-96 victory over the Bakersfield Jam, Kelly had his best game of the season. The Lakers rookie posted 30 points and 7 rebounds while showing great versatility on offense. Here are highlights of Kelly’s 30 point game via YouTube:

Through three games, Kelly has averaged 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while shooting 45.1 percent from the field. While he is only shooting 18.2 percent from beyond the arc and has struggled with his help defense, playing for the D-Fenders has been a good learning experience for the former Duke player.
