In addition to Ellington’s 28 points, his 12 made field goals were also a new career-high.

Before the game, Ellington told his teammates that they needed to come out with a bit more “tenacity.” In the locker room, Ellington said he echoed the same message to his teammates after their loss:

Be hungry, that’s the main thing for us. What do we have to lose? Just go out there leave it out there every game and see what happens.”

With the tragic passing of Ellington’s father earlier this season, it’s been a trying year for the 27-year-old guard. All of his teammates echoed how happy they were to see Ellington’s hard work pay off.

The Lakers return to Staples Center on Thursday night to take on Pau Gasol and the Chicago Bulls.
