With their dominant victory over the L.A. Clippers, the Los Angeles Lakers improved to 3-0 at the Las Vegas Summer League and are one of only two teams still undefeated. Rookie Cameron Carr played a big role once again, scoring a game-high 23 points in the 14-point victory that wasn’t even that close.

And despite being impressive so far, Carr made it clear that the Lakers have bigger goals in wanting to win the Las Vegas Summer League Championship.

“We get better every single game,” Carr said in his postgame interview on Prime. “We get more and more connected every single game. We’re here to win it. We’re not here to play around. We’re here to win it. That’s what we came to do. Job not done.”

The Lakers last won the Summer League Championship in 2017 with a squad led by a pair of Lonzo Ball, who won Summer League MVP, and Kyle Kuzma, who put everyone on notice on the way to an All-Rookie First Team selection.

As for Carr, he is feeling a lot better after returning to the court following a right thumb contusion which forced him to sit out the Lakers’ prior contest.

“I feel good. Another opportunity to step on the court,” Carr said. “It’s a blessing just to get the opportunity to play with the guys I’m around and get better.”

Carr’s offensive skills have been on full display this summer. The rookie has scored at least 18 points in four of the five games he has played in throughout both the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. But his focus now is on improving on the defensive end.

“I’m just trying to step up,” Carr added. “Just trying to be a better defender every single game and learn from the guys I’m around and the vets that have been here and done what I’m trying to do. Just learn as much as I can and try to be better every single game defensively.”

Carr is clearly talented on the offensive end, but it is the defensive side of the ball that will allow him to make potentially see the floor as a rookie and make an impact for this team and the guard clearly understands that.

Cameron Carr says he gets his energy from his mother

One thing that has been clear about Carr is that he plays with a lot of energy when he’s on the court and the Lakers rookie believes that comes from his mother.

“My mom always tells me to be an energy giver, don’t take people’s energy,” Carr said. “I’m young, so I gotta be an energy giver.”
