Luka Doncic and LeBron James are two of the premier superstar’s in today’s NBA and they will be tasked with leading the Los Angeles Lakers to hopefully another championship during the 2025-26 season.

Doncic is the perfect successor to James as he’s got a similar feel for the game and the ability to take over when needed. While James has captured four championships in his career, Doncic is looking to win his first though seems to be well-positioned to do so as a member of the Lakers.

Doncic and James didn’t get much time to gel on the floor following the blockbuster trade, but they still showed flashes of what their partnership could look like. Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean acknowledged he’s excited for the duo to build chemistry during training camp as it could truly unlock the roster’s offensive potential.

James has dropped potential hints that this could be his final season in Los Angeles, but Doncic emphasized that he still wants to play alongside him because he understands what it takes to win championships, via Sports Central LA:

“Of course. He’s one of the best basketball players ever, so just for having him there it’s gonna help all of us. Not just me, but every player, all the staff, he’s gonna help us win cause he knows what to do to win.”

There were murmurs at the beginning of the summer that James could be on his way out from Los Angeles because of the organization’s focus shifting to Doncic. Even though James still continues to drop potential hints of displeasure, by all accounts he’s still bought in on the team’s goal to win a title.

Doncic did everything this offseason to put himself in the best position to succeed, and if he has a healthy and motivated James alongside him then the sky is the limit. The offense should be electric with one of Doncic and James on the floor at all times, though there is a lot of work to be done to reach that upper tier of title contender.

Charles Barkley calls Lakers Luka Doncic’s team now

When the Lakers made the trade for Luka Doncic, it signaled the next era for the storied franchise. At 26 years old, Doncic is just about to hit his prime years and that should result in plenty of wins for Los Angeles.

LeBron James has done an excellent job stewarding the organization, but people like Charles Barkley believe the team belongs to Doncic now.
